Russ Hodges

Russ has been playing the electric bass for 22 years. He has recorded with Eric Peterson, The Buttered Popcorn Experiment, Blue Moon and most recently on Jeff Dodd's acoustic piccolo bass project "Falling Awake" alongside bass greats Jeff Dodd, Michael Manring, Tony Franklin, Yves Carbonne, Jeff Schmidt, Jonni Lightfoot and Brady Muckelroy. Russ plays solo bass sets in Salt Lake City and teaches in Salt Lake and Utah counties.

Russ is an accomplished music teacher as well, teaching his "Modern Bass" techniques through his studio in Utah, as well as online via his Russ Modern Bass interactive teaching site. His Modern Bass online lesson semphasize a solid foundation in the physical and technical aspects of playing which is achieved through various exercises that focus the student on proper technique. Developing a strong sense of time feel is a critical aspect of playing bass and Russ has broken these "basics" into an ongoing series of straight forward lessons and exercises which you can learn at your own pace.

Russ Hodges GW Basses Scholarship

Russ and I worked together come up with the annual "GW Basses Scholarship". Each year, GW Basses awards a free bass to one of Russ' most promising, talented and hard working students. The student picks any GW Basses Model and options, and then I build the bass for them, ship it to Russ when completed for him to present to his student along with a certificate.
